After publishing Honest to God and setting up this website, I stepped back to take a breather and to see what would happen. What happened was not much. That is not surprising since I did almost nothing in the way of marketing.
I must admit that in the back of my mind I was hoping that the obvious brilliance and significance of the work would trigger a word-of-mouth groundswell to spread interest far and wide. Hah! In reality, things went much more that way the front of my mind expected.
Of the couple dozen people who have acquired the book so far, a few loved it, a few expressed mild interest, and most responded with deafening silence. I was hoping for enough response to get some real conversations going based on the reactions and concerns of readers instead of just launching my thoughts into the void.
Lately I have been considering whether to just leave it all and turn my attention to other things or to get serious about blogging and promoting, if not the book itself, the ideas it lays out, which I still think are valuable. This has been a significant spiritual/transitional, slow-motion crisis in my life. Seriously engaging with the subject matter is hard work that part of me prefers not to do. However, I find that I simply cannot drop it all and just walk away. Something in me just won’t let that happen.
So, I am going to give this blog a serious effort and see where it leads. You can expect posts at irregular intervals. There is plenty of material, but how much time and effort it takes me to get down to what I think really needs saying and how to say it can vary a lot. Also, other aspects of life can command my attention. I will post things when I feel they are ready.
I am still very much hoping for interaction with readers. Feel free to engage and ask questions on both the blog and the forum.
